Where can you find the nicest scarf? Who makes the best cashmere sweater? Every year, around this time – like a holiday classic on the radio – some gifts become popular again. To determine the best examples of these items, we are talking to experts, and even testing the products ourselves to find the greatest gift for ourselves. (Also several runner-ups).

A scarf is always a good holiday gift. It’s practical, it’s seasonal, and it matches from December to April. But with so many options out there, how can you find a scarf that is stylish, affordablecomfortable, and not just straightforward? To guide us in our quest, we consulted a panel of experts – from store owners to accessories managers to stylists – to find the most “giftable” scarf. We then added some of our own choices to the list, along with our favorite choices, as well as some more affordable options. In the end, though, one scarf stood alone.

Some Best Women’s Scarf

Paloma Wool Gianna Scarf

Paloma Wool Giana Scarf. The earliest favorite was the Barcelona brand Paloma Wool, known for its comfortable and knitted color palette. Lisa Buhler, the founder of the independent boutique Lisa Says Gah, was the first to inform us of the fact that this year’s Poloma wool scarf will be big. “We sold some of them – some surprises early in the season,” she says, and points to the brand’s thicker, chunky-gauge styles like the Gianna Scarf as top sellers for the brand.

As a gift option, it would also be nice to have this sweet spot below $100, thanks to Adele Tetangco, co-founder of Garmentory, and Mr. Larkin founder Casey Larkin Blond credit, for how good they are selling at both stores this year. Selling like, range of colors “They’re affordable, so it’s an easy purchase. I love how tall they are and the muted tones they come in are extremely wearable,” says Tetangco.

Beyond the Paloma wool pastels, a clear trend emerged: black and white scarf. The color scheme is extremely popular this year for logomania scarf and prints. They are also giftable because they are easy to match with dark separates and are safe for those who do not like the color. Marina Larroude, fashion director at Barneys New York, says she will gifting this “fashion-forward and trend” bandana print piece from Italian brand Dustin this year.

Another tip came from fashion consultant Lisa Aiken (formerly the fashion director at Net-A-Porter), who tells us that the black and white silk neckerchiefs from under-the-radar French brand Le Scarf is ready to be the next cult hit: “All Styles They’re simple, versatile, and have that understated Scandinavian appeal. I’ll give the striped style as a gift myself, wearing it around the neck, or tie to a bag.

HK Beachwear Off White

I have this scarf and take a lot of compliments on it. It is more of cobalt blue, so it is not neutral, but for those who like the color. It’s still a good choice.

In this same category of a comfortable scarf, we have already given it a gift from Design House Stockholm (it has been selling in MoMa Design Store for 15 years), and it has always been successful. It comes in a variety of colors, from black, gray, and navy to this tan. Its pleats look a lot like an Issey Miyake-on-budget and the fleece is so soft and non-nubby. This is great for covering your face in the cold.
